Empty Leg Flights
Empty leg flights are one-way private jet sectors sold when an aircraft must reposition between missions. When the timing fits your diary, the price is often well below a standard one-way charter — because the repositioning cost is already on the operator’s books.

What is an empty leg?
An empty leg is a ferry flight. The aircraft has a confirmed job in A, then another in B, and must move between them without revenue passengers. That gap is the empty leg. You book the whole cabin for that sector — not a seat on a shared shuttle.
In addition, empty legs suit travellers whose dates can flex a little. The departure window is often wider than a bespoke charter. Stops, catering and pets are possible when the operator agrees; they are not automatic. For a tailored itinerary, see our private jet hire desk.
Why empty leg flights cost less
The operator already pays fuel, crew duty and airport fees to reposition. Selling the cabin recovers part of that cost. As a result, you still fly private: the same aircraft class, the same FBO habits, the same door-to-door rhythm. Read how ground handling works at the FBO — the empty leg lands there too.
Operators often describe these legs as repositioning or ferry flights in operational manuals.
Worked example (illustrative)
For example, take a midsize jet on Paris–Nice as a full one-way charter. A round planning figure might sit near €22,000 for the aircraft, crew and basic handling. However, the same cabin on an empty leg the operator must fly anyway might be offered from about €9,000. That is roughly €13,000 less on the sector. With six passengers, the empty-leg figure is about €1,500 per seat equivalent — still a whole-aircraft hire, not an airline ticket.
These numbers are examples only. Real quotes depend on aircraft, airports, timing and extras. For wider pricing context, see our note on private jet cost in Europe and Africa.
Why book empty legs with Menkor
Menkor Aviation is a charter adviser, not an airline app. We match empty legs from operators we already trust, explain the flexibility in plain language, and hold the quote until you decide. If nothing on the board fits, we build a standard one-way or return on the destinations you actually need.
Meanwhile, you speak to an adviser — by day or night — not a checkout page. There is no online checkout and no membership fee.
Empty leg flights: questions we hear most
What exactly is an empty leg?
It is a one-way repositioning flight sold as a whole-aircraft charter when the cabin would otherwise fly empty.
Why is it cheaper than a normal charter?
Because the aircraft must move anyway. Therefore the empty-leg price recovers part of that repositioning cost instead of building a mission from scratch.
Can the schedule change?
Yes. Empty legs follow the primary charter. Windows can shift by hours, and occasionally by a day. We confirm the latest slot before you commit.
Can I add a stop?
Sometimes. An en-route stop needs fuel, slots and crew duty to line up. Ask early; we will say yes only when the operator can hold the plan.
How do I book with Menkor?
Choose a sample route below or describe your dates. An adviser checks today’s board, sends a firm quote, and coordinates handling. Contact us any time.
What about pets and luggage?
Pets and bags travel with you in the cabin when the operator’s ops manual allows it. Tell us the breed, weight and bag count when you enquire.
