Patagonia in spring, with room for the weather

Glaciar Los Perros in Torres del Paine, Patagonia., Menkor media library.

Southern spring is not a smaller version of January. A Patagonia planning guide updated on 27 September 2026, which says it checked Visit Argentina, Chile Travel and the park authority CONAF, puts the easier window for most first trips from late November through early March. That is when hiking access, daylight and services line up most reliably. December, January and February are the busiest of those months. October, the month this page is written beside, is spring and a shoulder. It can be quieter. The weather is variable, and not every route is ready. The guide is not a promise that a given trail is open on the day you land.

The same guide reads Visit Argentina’s notes on El Chaltén as a broad season from October through April, with December through March the stronger hiking months, and with mountain views that still depend on cloud and wind. If the view is the reason for the trip, one day is a thin plan. None of this is a survey Menkor walked last week. It is a published planning view, and it should be checked again against the park and the lodges before money moves. Antarctica is not part of this brief. A seasonal destination in Patagonia is already large enough.

There is a second calendar on the Atlantic side, and it should not be mixed into the hike. The guide says Visit Argentina treats September to November as a strong wildlife window for Península Valdés, and that southern right whales are usually seen from June to October. Sightings are not guaranteed. A whale week and a Fitz Roy week are two trips. Say which one you mean.

Long range, then patience

These are long sectors. The conversation starts with aircraft that can do them in a civilised cabin, not with a guess at block time. This page will not invent a flight time. Menkor’s Gulfstream G800 charter page is one named option for a private jet charter of this length. The Dassault Falcon 8X is another. Neither link is a performance table. If you want the wider set before you pick a name, use the long-range jet hire category. The right luxury private jet is the one that fits the party, the bags, and the number of nights you intend to sleep on board, or not.

A group that wants to stay together, rather than meet in a distant hub and sort itself out, is a group charter. Say who must arrive the same day and who can follow. Wind is the planning fact the guide keeps returning to. Build slack into the days on the ground. Private jet hire can protect the arrival and the departure. It cannot clear a summit.

If the route is remote enough that a medical plan should exist before you go, that is a separate file. Menkor arranges air ambulance and medical repatriation when you ask for it. It is not equipment bolted into the holiday aircraft, and it is not described here.

What to leave out of the first sketch

Do not chain five one-night stops and call it flexible. Do not assume October has the same refuges, boats and trail rules as January. Do not ask for an airport lecture. The charter brief is the region, the towns you already trust, the nights that are held, and the day that must be free if the mountain is in cloud.

The part you should not have to run

Menkor arranges the charter. It does not operate the flight as an airline. You keep the lodges and the park questions. Menkor matches the aircraft to the route and the party, coordinates ground handling so the arrival is a handover, and keeps the timing flexible when wind or a closed trail moves the day. You are in Patagonia for the seasonal destination. The private jet charter should not become a second expedition.
